5 out of 5 stars favorite birthday gift   August 5, 2009

This toy is lots of fun for the dinosaur lover in your family. It stands about a foot high and has 2 sensors: one on the nose and the other on it's back. The toy is programmed to do different things based on which sensors are activated. If you press the sensor on the back, it's like you are patting Screature. It sort of purrs. If you press both sensors together, it's like you are tickling screature and he laughs. Pressing the sensor on the nose though activites his "angry" mode. The nose sensor also detects movement near it's face so you don't actually have to touch screature to get "snapped" at. The dinosaur will also sort of rear back and unfold it's wings and spit water out. This is a fun trick on an unsuspecting friend!

The toy seems well made and easy to activate. Sensors are pretty sensitive so you don't have to press them hard to make Screature move. The dinosaur itself is stationary so it doesn't walk or jump.

The battery component and the water tank are on the bottom under the feet. The battery component is screwed in so no worries with young kids getting into batteries. The water tank is small but really easy to fill.

Great birthday gift! definitely recommend

5 out of 5 stars Fun!   September 10, 2009

I got one for my shop/office, and enjoy it. A few notes:

1. When you get it, it is in a demo mode and will NOT squirt. All you have to do is to turn it completely ON (switch is on the foot) and it will increase its behaviors, go to sleep mode, squirt, etc. (I suspect some low scores came from people who did not know this.)

2. The squirting tank is pretty small, and the volume of each squirt is pretty small, but it shoots a good 10+ feet with a little force. If you use it in an office or someplace with nice clothes and lots of paper, you may want to keep the tank empty... or put up a good warning sign!

3. This is a reasonably tough toy, but it is more geared for 'tabletop play' than 'sandbox play'.

By the way- this thing just BEGS to be hacked. Voice recording/playback module (it yawns when it wakes up. I want it to play the theme from Jurassic Park!), glowing eyes, dancing to music (a Screature/iDog hybrid?) and more!

5 out of 5 stars The hit of the birthday party   July 24, 2009

This is a great little dinosaur! A friend got it for my son (7) a couple of months ago, and it was a lot of fun at the party. Lots of giggles as the kids put their hands in front of his mouth to make Screature snap. And when we filled him up with water, the boys went crazy trying to make him spray each other. Definitely more play with Screature than the $100 toy mom and dad got him at the same birthday. :P

I expected quick loss of interest with Screature, but two months later he's still playing with it: using the water-spitting for target practice on his action figures. There's fun a motion-sensing mode he likes to use on any unsuspecting guest who visits his room.

My only complaint is that the water container in the foot is pretty small; it's gone after about 10 sprays. But the good news there is that the spray of water is very thin, so he can use it indoors without too much mess. So maybe that's more of a feature! :)

5 out of 5 stars Too Much Fun   March 6, 2009

I wanted to buy this for my 4 year old nephew - but he thought it was a little creepy. I thought it was so cute I bought it for myself and now have it on my desk at work. We have all had so much fun with it and others at work say they plan on buying one as well. Also, my nephew changed his mind about the creepy aspect once he figured out it squirted water.

5 out of 5 stars I wish I were a kid again...   December 12, 2009

I bought Screature as a Christmas gift for a young child, but, the way it was packaged allowed me to see it in action first. I was very impressed. It quickly became the hit at the office. The numerous actions that the dinosaur performs and the sounds it makes are very fun. Apparently you can fill it with water and it will "spit" at you (just like a real Velociraptor) but I did not see that as I never took it out of its box. It is very well built and comes with batteries, so it can be enjoyed immediately. Movement is controlled strictly by its programming, with the exception of the dinosaur's arms, which can be adjusted manually. It's legs do not move.

I have since bought another Screature for my nephew's birthday. He is 5 and he and all his friends at the party loved it. It definitely brought lots of fun to the party.

Although I am not sure that it is a toy that will occupy a child for hours on end, I believe any child who likes dinosaurs will enjoy this toy.
